PlayKiko

Drawing

An empty page, a handful of colours, and no opinion about what should end up on it.

Free

A childs drawing of a sun, a tree and grass beside Kikos duckling friend, with the colour palette on the right

What it is

The simplest possible drawing tool: a blank area and a row of large colour buttons. No brushes to choose, no menus, nothing that can be tapped by accident and change everything.

It exists because sometimes a child doesn't want to fill in someone else's picture.

How to play

Pick a colour and draw with a finger. Pick another and keep going. That is the entire interface.

Nothing is scored, nothing is checked, and the page clears when your child wants a fresh one.

What it builds

Free mark-making is the first stage of writing. Long before letters, children need to discover that a hand movement leaves a trace and that the trace can be controlled.

It is also one of the few places in the app with no correct answer at all, which matters more than it sounds for a child who is used to being gently corrected all day.

Ages and pace

Any age in the range, and often the first thing a younger child does on their own. Sessions tend to be short, which is fine.
