Who this is
Coco is the monkey with a long curling tail and a face that is almost all cheeks. He climbs through the jungle maze and the bridges over the river.
What is in the picture
His muzzle is a big oval taking up most of the face, so it is the obvious place to start. The tail curls right round to the edge of the page and is drawn as a line to follow rather than an area to fill.
Colouring it with a toddler
The muzzle and the belly want to be lighter than the rest of him. A child who notices that has understood something about how these drawings are built.
Thick crayons beat pencils at this age — they need no grip strength and they do not break when a child leans on them. Expect the first few attempts to be one colour scribbled across everything; staying inside a line comes later, and it comes on its own.
Colour it on screen instead
Coco is also in the PlayKiko colouring game, where tapping an area fills it and nothing goes outside the lines. Useful on a train, where crayons are a mistake.
