Wooden Blocks
An empty frame and a pile of odd-shaped pieces. Every gap has to be filled.
In the full version
What it is
A frame on one side, loose pieces on the other, and one rule: nothing may be left over and no gap may be left open. Four levels, from four pieces up to fourteen.
The pieces are irregular, so there is usually only one way everything fits. Finding it is the game.
How to play
Drag a piece into the frame. It settles if it fits there, and slides back if it doesn't.
Pieces can be placed in any order, and anything already placed can be pulled out again. The level ends when the frame is full.
What it builds
This is spatial reasoning with a hard constraint attached. A child has to look at a gap, look at the remaining pieces, and judge which one matches — then find out whether the judgement was right.
Fourteen pieces is also a genuine exercise in persistence. The later levels take several attempts, and finishing one is a real achievement for a three-year-old.
Playing together
Younger children usually need a grown-up pointing out which piece goes where. This is one of three games in PlayKiko built with that in mind, alongside Tic-Tac-Toe and the Magnetic Builder.
Four levels
Four pieces at first, then fourteen — the frame stays the same size, the pieces get smaller.
