Turning Cubes

Three cubes on a rod, each showing a different animal. Turn them until they agree.

In the full version

Three wooden strips showing a panda head, a duckling body and a bear below, not yet matching

What it is

A digital version of the wooden picture-cube toy: three cubes threaded onto a rod, each with a different friend on every face. They start out mismatched, and the job is to turn them one by one until all three show the same character.

Unlike a jigsaw, nothing is ever lost or out of place — the answer is always there, just facing the wrong way.

How to play

Swipe a cube to turn it. Keep turning until the face you want is in front, then move to the next one.

When all three match, the round completes and a new arrangement appears.

What it builds

Turning a cube to reveal a hidden face requires imagining what is on the other side — mental rotation, in the plainest possible form.

It also teaches a useful habit: solve one part, then the next, rather than trying to fix everything at once. Children who rush discover quickly that the method doesn't work.

Ages and pace

Around three is where this one lands properly. Younger children enjoy spinning the cubes without aiming for a match, which is a reasonable way to start.
